Meet Dr. Coulter

Dr. John Coulter was born in Knoxville and raised a Vol fan. He met his wife, Ashley Robins Coulter in elementary school, they began dating while attending high school in Knoxville, and the rest is history.

Together, the Coulters have 5 children, Grayson (8), Callie (7), Caitlin (4), Claire (2) and Thomas (newborn). They enjoy exploring in and around Knoxville, are season pass holders at Dollywood, and love family beach trips. When it is not football season, Dr. Coulter enjoys making BBQ on his Big Green Egg and working on his 1978 Ford Bronco.

Dr. Coulter attended dental school at the University of Tennessee. He received additional training at UT Medical Center through the General Practice Residency where he was chief resident his second year and completed a fellowship in his third year. Dr. Coulter enjoys teaching and serves as adjunct faculty within the residency program at UT Medical Center.

Dr. Coulter is a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry, a board member of the Tennessee Dental Association, and a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and the American Dental Association. The Tennessee Board of Dentistry requires 20 hours of continuing education per year. Dr. Coulter is committed to lifelong learning and averages over 100 hours annually.

Meet Dr. Birch

Dr. Anna Birch was born and raised in a small town in southwest Ohio. She’s married to her high school sweetheart, Kaleb, who found an early love for Tennessee while spending his summers as a kid at Watts Bar Lake! They love playing frisbee with their 3 dogs (two border collies and a sheltie), watching college football, boating, or trying new hikes in Smoky Mountain National Park.

Dr. Birch graduated dental school with honors from The Ohio State University (go Buckeyes!) and was awarded the American College of Dentists Outstanding Student Leader Award. Although they are still passionate Buckeyes, they are excited to be in Knoxville.

Alongside Dr. Coulter, she considers herself a lifelong learner and is dedicated to continuing education. Not only does she continue to participate in a monthly journal club with the current UT residents and local dental professionals, but she is rapidly working toward her Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry and is currently a member of the Tennessee Dental Association and the American Dental Association.

Dr. Birch has a deep passion for connecting with her patients and strives to provide the best overall dental experience for each individual. She can’t wait to meet you!

Meet the Team

Rebecca grew up in Strawberry Plains and graduated from East Tennessee State University. Rebecca and her husband, Keith, have the cutest little boy, Lincoln.

Rebecca has been at CFD since May 2017. She does a lot of the behind the scenes work for us at the dental office.

She also works hard to get the most out of your insurance benefits and ensures that you have a full understanding of your treatment plan.

When she’s not nose deep in dental insurance benefits, she enjoys spending time with her little family and going hunting with her dad and nephew!

Lauren was born and raised in Knoxville. She has been married to Ryan since September 2021. They love their hound dog Dot, restoring old furniture, and learning all types of new hobbies together.

She has been a dental assistant for 9 years, 6 of those with Dr. Coulter, and became an EFDA in 2020 (that means she can place fillings!)

This is a picture of Kailea our Knoxville dental assistant

Kailea has been in Knoxville her whole life! She loves teeth and loves smiling! In high school she even won “Best Smile!” In college she studied abroad in France! She finished school at MeHarry in Nashville, TN to become an EFDA!

When she is not helping the doctors at work you can find her helping her special needs friends!

Kailea teaches a dance class for individuals with special needs for the last 9 years!

She loves traveling and has been to 37 of the 50 states!

Myla was born and raised in Grainger County. In her free time, she loves going wakeboarding, snowboarding, and pretty much anything to do with the outdoors.

She loves spending time with her family & friends.

Myla is also continuing her education in the dental field and wants to become a hygienist.

Coulter Family Dentistry added Leslie as one of their hygienists in 2018. She graduated Dental Hygiene School from Roane State in 2016. Born and raised in Knoxville, TN, it was pretty known that Leslie would become a huge Vol fan. You’ll see her repping Tennessee Sports all year.

She loves relaxing with her dog, Daisy, leading Dance2Fit classes, and anything outdoor related.

Leslie married her favorite ice cream maker, Chris (they worked together at Bruster’s Ice Cream), in 2016. Chris passed away in May of 2022 after a three-year battle of cancer. Leslie’s goal is to keep Chris’ name in the present and show his love to others. Chris was one of Leslie’s first patients in dental hygiene school and he told her once she was finished with his dental cleaning, “Wow, Les. You made my teeth feel like little, shiny pearls.” Leslie hopes to keep that feeling going for others.

Forrest is a Knoxville native who graduated from East Tennessee State University in 2015 and started working at Coulter Family Dentistry in 2016. Forrest couldn’t have found a better place to work and dental hygiene is truly what God has called her to do! She loves teeth, but loves her patients more.

Forrest and her husband Trey have two beautiful babies, Kate Rose, born in 2020, and Ty, born in 2022. Food is Forrest’s love language so she and her husband spend their weekends grilling and cooking at home. If Forrest isn’t cooking she’s more than likely laughing with her two sisters and mom, singing, creating, or daydreaming.

Annie Grace

Annie Grace is a Knoxville native and the youngest of three girls. She was a basketball player growing up but knew early on that she wanted to be a dental hygienist.

Annie Grace and her high school sweetheart, Braden, have been together since 2014 and have two adorable cats together. She enjoys skiing and is a major bookworm.

Annie Grace graduated from Roane State in 2020 and transferred to ETSU for the dental hygiene program immediately after and graduated May of 2022 (Go Bucs…and Vols)!

Her top priority is making sure all of her patients are happy and comfortable in her chair!

Fun Fact: Erika and Annie Grace were best friends in the dental hygiene program at ETSU and are now work besties too!

Erika was born and raised in Monroe County. A recent graduate of East Tennessee State University, Erika majored in Dental Hygiene and minored in Dance.

At the age of 4 Erika began dancing which led to the opportunity of dancing on the ETSU Dance Team all 4 years. Erika was team captain her senior year – Go Bucs!

Erika enjoys fitness, yoga, traveling, and spending time with family, friends, and her kitty, Cleo.

Erika strives to create a comfortable environment her patients will look forward to coming back to!

Katie was born and raised in South Knoxville. She has been married since 2019 to her husband, Hunter, and they have an energetic little boy named Carson that was born in 2021. Unfortunately, Hunter is a Florida fan (we try not to hold it against him) so Katie’s doing everything she can to make sure Carson is a Vol for Life!

Before Katie became a hygienist, she was a dental assistant and gained great experience before starting her hygiene career.

When Katie’s not doing dentistry, you can find her staying active outdoors, reading, and hanging out with family and friends.

Caroline is a Knoxville native! She and her husband Tommy have been married 8 years! They have two little boys who light up their world! Her dog June is becoming a therapy dog to help veterans!

Before Caroline became our patient care coordinator, she taught first grade for 8 years! She loves being able to help patients get the care they need! Caroline is the first face you will see when you walk in, greeting you with a warm smile!

Haley was born in Knoxville TN! She graduated from Gibbs High School, Go Eagles! She was also a dental assistant and found her true passion as a patient care coordinator.

Haley has excellent customer service. We like to think it’s from her 8 years at Chick Fila as a manager!

She and her husband met at Chick a Fila and have been married for 2 years! They have the sweetest little black lab named Ellie!

Haley will make sure your appointments are perfect for you and welcome you with the brightest smile!

Fun Facts

Dr. Coulter credits his love of cooking to mayonnaise. Back in middle school, his mom would always put mayo, which he hated, on all of his school lunches. Finally, he started packing his own lunches, and he got pretty good at it!
