Why Water Is Good For Your Teeth

Everyone knows that water is essential for overall health but did you know that it is good for your teeth too? Water is has no sugar, no preservatives, it’s not acidic and is a building block of life. As the temperature in Knoxville heats up water will be our best friend. Here are some of the great things water does for us:

The ocean, the lake, a spring rain, playing in the sprinklers in the summer, is there anytime we don’t like water? Water keeps our body temperature down and keeps our skin plump and looking youthful.

Did you know that water is good for your teeth and mouth too?

One of the most common causes of bad breath is dehydration. When you’re dehydrated the mucus in your respiratory system thickens. Thick mucus sticks around longer and becomes a great environment for bacteria to thrive. This all adds a foul smell to your breath and water is the easiest way to fight bad breath.

Need some refreshment, water is sugar free and is the original zero calorie beverage. While it is good for your waistline it is also great for your teeth. Who doesn’t love a cavity free mouth?

We need to be clear, water is not a substitute for brushing or flossing. However, water can help clean your teeth between brushings. It can wash away foods and liquids that can may cause tooth decay. If you’re on the go this summer, take a swig of water and swish it around for a temporary brushing substitute. Then when you’re back home you can grab your toothbrush and do the real thing.

If you come into our Knoxville dental office you’ll definitely leave with an education on keeping your mouth healthy. Hopefully this little post will remind you to stay hydrated this summer!
